General Course Aims

The following is a list of general course aims that are applicable to all of the courses on offer by Body and Sole School of Complementary Therapies.

  • To develop the skill an in-depth knowledge is required for the effective treatment and evaluation of a client by having good techniques, by taking good consultation notes and keeping accurate records by using good listening skills.
  • To gain confidence and experience through supervised practice.
  • To know when to refer a client for further treatment to another therapist or their GP as appropriate.
  • To understand and follow the Code of Practice and Ethics lead out by the governing bodies.
  • To ensure that the holistic approach (mental physical spiritual and social) is used and understood.
  • To gently encourage the client to accept responsibility for gaining and maintaining their own health.
  • To be aware of and to understand the implications of cautions and contra-indications in relation to treating clients.
  • To be informed about the necessary skills to manage a professional practice e.g. the importance of keeping accounts information on how to approach talks, charging for services the treatment room and the practitioners own presentation.
  • To know about support systems within their own community:- Social services Health Board areas voluntary organisations dealing with specific conditions or diseases and also private support eg. counselling
  • To develop an understanding and acceptance of the various techniques of aromatherapy / reflexology and openness to possible advances now and in the future.
  • To promote awareness of other Complementary Therapies.
  • To keep up to date on current views and research in the general area of healthcare.
  • To gain a good understanding of the human body it's anatomy physiology how it is in health and illness relating to the Holistic view outlined above.
